Milkstars: A Love Story

Posted by Morgan on January 18, 2010 at 11:39 pm.

Uh huh. That is a picture of me breast feeding my child. On the internet. With my boob out of my shirt. And I’m not even campaigning for anything. Look closely. See that shirt I’m wearing? That is a Milkstars nursing top. Can you see my nipple? [No, thirteen year old boys googling breastfeeding hoping for pictures of boobs and winding up on this blog, you can't.] Dee’s head is exposed to fresh air while my boobs/nasty postpartum belly flap are not. That is the miracle of Milkstars. And that’s not all. These shirts are soft. And comfortable. And generously long. And flattering.

As suspected, I did not bounce right back after baby. (More on that later, but really – what would I complain about if I had?) So finding any article of clothing that doesn’t make me want to vomit when I look in the mirror these days is a major feat. And to find an article of clothing that is both non-vomit inducing AND breastfeeding friendly? Jamie [the brain behind the boobies] you brilliant girl, I salute you.

[Seeing as "non-vomit inducing" hardly does Milkstars justice, allow me to go on: In addition to all of the above, they're cut well, and the double layer prevents anything from clinging anywhere you don't want it to. And they're great for people who feel good about their bodies too!]

Anyway – Jamie was kind enough to send over The Rachel in Black, and I wear it religiously. I’m certain I need at least two or three more. (The Jenny is next on my list.) In addition to the many other hurdles to overcome in order to feed your babe from your busom, nursing in public is a difficult skill to master. I’ve slunk off to the powder room on a couple of occasions under the unapproving side-eye of anal retentive ladies who lunch, or because hiding under a receiving blanket is causing me to overheat like I’m effing menopausal. I know I should be more “I am woman hear me roar” about it – proudly flaunting the beautiful act of breastfeeding, but can be hard to stick out your chin with your fun bags on display, ifyouknowwhatImean. But armed with my Milkstars, I’m whipping TaTa’s out with best of them, feeding Dee in all kinds of inappropriate places, an no one is the wiser. It’s heaven.

So, beloved and loyal readers of The818, I have a lovely little post-holiday pick-me-up for you (well, those of you who breastfeed…sorry non-lactaters.) In other news, Delilah was extremely entertained by Mommy’s bright red lips, which inevitably resulted in her spending the better part of an afternoon looking like this:
